The art of copper enamelling is an ancient technique for decorating the surface of jewellery, wall art and sculptures with the use of metal and glass, practised by artisans from the western ghats of Maharashtra.

Powdered glass is fused to a metal surface at very high temperatures which lends its vibrant colours and lustre to the copper surface, preventing it from oxidising, making it more usable and valuable.

This particular copper enamelling plate is handcrafted by our team of artisans from the western ghats of Maharashtra, India. Copper Enamelling is the age-old craft of fusing glass onto the copper surface for colour enrichment. The glass powder is laid onto the copper surface in the requisite patterns and the assembly is heated to 700 to 900°C, at which point the powdered glass melts to form a coat on the copper surface. This glass enamelling not only lends its vibrant colours to the copper surface but also prevents it from oxidizing, thereby rendering it more usable.
